Chestnut - Marigoule from Reads Nursery

Chestnut - Marigoule An early to mid season variety with large dark brown nuts. Good for storage and for wet areas as resistant to anthracnose and ink disease. Castanea sativa - Chestnuts are happy on light soils, acid to neutral is best. A traditional tree with the wood used as fencing material. Gage - Old Greengage from Reads Nursery

Gage - Old Greengage An old established variety with an admirable history dating back to 1724 but this tree is thought to be much older and named for the wife of Francois 1 of France (1494-1547). It upholds the reputation of having one of the best flavours for a gage / plum to grow in the uk. The fruits are a yellow green in colour and a medium size, it may not yield as highly as more modern varieties but the succulent flesh and superb flavour lif t it above many others. The crop benefits from thinning to avoid biennial bearing (cropping every other year ). Ripening in mid August depending on season and location. Pollination group 3.
